back when all the countries decided to nuke the shit out of each other, a lot of those countries had scientists up in space on different stations, you know? whole teams of them.
when they could not return to earth because it was a hellfire with all of the radiation, they pooled resources and literally united their space stations into what became the ark
the population grew over time but the culture we had access to, it was whatever our ancestor scientists had on board their ships
some had comic books, some had books, some had tv shows
everything was stored digital, access wasn't exactly universally equal on board the ship
some sectors of the station, kids had access to everything growing up, including the greenhouses where they grew plants

most of the food we've tried here is new
when we did get to earth, and we both ended up there eventually (another long story, you don't need this one), we could eat whatever we found that wasn't poisonous
so that's nuts, berries, wild turnips and carrots and whatnot, and game
so yeah, an apple pie will blow his mind
